Flying into coastal brown bear territory, Katmai National Park. Rivers, tundra, and snow-capped peaks as far as you can see. Most people know these bears for catching salmon, but they spend a surprising amount of time grazing on sedges and grasses in meadows just like these. There’s something humbling about watching a thousand-pound predator quietly feeding in an open field. A side of the species most people never see.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
