The Piece
Ceramic Sculpture
Two open lace forms, sold as a pair, each cupped like a leaf and finished with a curled stem rising off one corner. Knitted square by square and fired so the openwork keeps its own shape, right down to the scalloped edge. They were made with small air plants in mind, one nested in the cup of each leaf, and they will also hang from the ceiling on a length of fishing line. Decorative only, not functional ware.

Michi is my childhood nickname- you may know me as Michelle Herringer. Learn more about me at michipottery.com My functional work is intended to add a touch of special to the daily routine; a bridge between life and art - objects that carry both creative beauty and utility. On the other side of functional lies my work known as 'knit porcelain'. Here I start with something soft and pliable - yarn- and transform it into something sculptural.
