The Piece
Ceramic Sculpture
A bird caught mid-flight, wings spread wide and arched as if diving, knitted stitch by stitch and turned to porcelain in the kiln. The knit texture runs the length of each wing and reads like plumage from a distance. It will sit on a shelf or a stand, but the artist thinks it looks best on a wall. Decorative only, and delicate enough to want careful handling.

Michi is my childhood nickname- you may know me as Michelle Herringer. Learn more about me at michipottery.com My functional work is intended to add a touch of special to the daily routine; a bridge between life and art - objects that carry both creative beauty and utility. On the other side of functional lies my work known as 'knit porcelain'. Here I start with something soft and pliable - yarn- and transform it into something sculptural.
