The Piece
Ceramic Sculpture
A knit porcelain pouch in slate grey that relaxed in the firing, its mouth pulled down to a small dark opening at the center. Coral i-cord runs through the eyelets around that opening and spills off the lower edge in loose tails. The slump was the kiln’s doing rather than the plan, which is part of why there is only one. Hangs on a wall, where it reads as a relief rather than a vessel. Signed on a small porcelain tag worked right into the knitting. Decorative only, not functional ware.

Michi is my childhood nickname- you may know me as Michelle Herringer. Learn more about me at michipottery.com My functional work is intended to add a touch of special to the daily routine; a bridge between life and art - objects that carry both creative beauty and utility. On the other side of functional lies my work known as 'knit porcelain'. Here I start with something soft and pliable - yarn- and transform it into something sculptural.
